Skywarn Net Status

Skywarn Net Status

I would like to take a moment to say "Thank You" to Tom, W1SDM, for taking the time to help us with our own Skywarn Net Status graphics.

On our homepage, we used to have a link to Metro Skywarn's Net Activation Status, which would update automatically.  Now, we have our own graphics, and Tom has written a program for us that will update the Skywarn Status automatically, specific for our area.  Here is how it will work.

Skywarn Status White:  Skywarn Activation Will Not Be Needed
This simply means that there is no hazardous weather expected for our area and spotter activation is not anticipated.

Skywarn Status Blue:  Activation May Be Needed
If any of the counties listed below are included into the risk area of the Hazardous Weather Outlook, the Skywarn Status will go to Blue, indicating that spotter activation may be needed.  Spotters should stay alert.

Counties that have been programmed:  Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Washington, and Wright.

Skywarn Status Yellow:  Stand-By Watch Issued
If any of the counties listed below are included in a watch (tornado or thunderstorm), Skywarn Status will change to Yellow.  Spotters should stay alert, monitoring NOAA Weather Radio, NWS information, and/or by monitoring 146.640.

Counties that have been programmed:  Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Washington, and Wright.

Skywarn Status Red:  Warnings Issued
If any of the counties listed below are included in a warning (tornado or thunderstorm), Skywarn Status will change to Red.  Spotters should be prepared for activation, monitoring NOAA weather radio, NWS information, and 146.640.

Counties that have been programmed:  Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Washington, and Wright.

These graphics are programmed to read information directly from information provided by the National Weather Service.  They do NOT indicate whether the ham radio Skywarn net is activated or not.  For that you must monitor 146.640.
