Weather measurements and forecasting often takes place at different levels of the atmosphere. Here is a list of
common measurements, in millibars, and the the approximate level of the atmosphere where that would be. These levels
are not exact because they do change (minor changes).
925 mb = 2500 feet above sea level
850 mb = 4600 feet above sea level
700 mb = 9900 feet above sea level
500 mb = 18,250 feet above sea level
300 mb = 30,000 feet above sea level
250 mb = 34,000 feet above sea level
200 mb = 38,000 feet above sea level
